Air Filters vs. Pet Hair

Have pets? Be sure you are changing your air filters monthly! Air filters play a major role in a home’s HVAC system by preventing contaminants from entering into your system’s air distribution. They also help protect the HVAC from building up with dust, pet hair and dander. A dirty or clogged air filter can cause the HVAC system to work harder and run longer, increasing energy bills substantially and causing malfunctions.

If you have pets, regular air filter changes are even more critical. When an HVAC system blows air, it is also sucking up contaminants in the air such as pet hair and dander which sticks to your A/C coil and can really cause some serious damage to your HVAC equipment.

One thing that can help reduce circulating pet hair is bathing your pets regularly. Giving your pets a bath will keep the shedding somewhat contained. Another good idea would be investing in an air purifier or air scrubber which helps remove pollen, pet hair, and other particles from the air.
